Ralston Police to Re-Establish K-9 Program

Ralston Police to Re-Establish K-9 Program

The Ralston Police Department is pleased to announce the re-emergence of the K-9 Unit.  From 2002 to 2012, the police department was graced with our K-9 “Konig” and his partner, Sergeant Blair Bishop.  Once “Konig” retired, the program went dormant for various reasons.  Fortunately, after discussing this with City leaders, approval was given to bring the K-9 back.  We have utilized every aspect of current equipment and plan to retro fit them into a new K-9 cruiser.  This program also would not be possible without the amazing support we have received from numerous business partners in the Ralston area.  Through their generous donations, this program is fully funded and will not cost the City any major financial burden.  Our K-9 has been identified and is currently in Texas receiving 6-8 weeks of additional training before it is brought up to Nebraska.  Once here, the newest K-9 handler for the department, Officer Lucas Brown, and the canine will begin their certification course through the Omaha Police Department hopefully in late March/early April.  The new handler and canine will be introduced later at a future City Council meeting.  We are very excited about this renewed program and pleased to have such incredible partners in the process.
