December 2023 Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Results

The Ralston Police Department partnered with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for the 2023 holiday season Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over drunk-driving enforcement campaign. From December 15, 2023, through January 1, 2024, local law enforcement showed zero tolerance for impaired driving, with RPD officers arresting 10 offenders for DUI.

The Ralston Police Department added extra officers on patrol to specifically look for traffic violations and intoxicated drivers.  RPD arrested nine drivers for DUI-Alcohol and one for DUI-Drugs during this time. Officers also wrote 25 speeding citations and two reckless driving citations, arrested three people on outstanding arrest warrants, two for possession of methamphetamine, one for minor in possession of alcohol, wrote many other citations for various traffic violations.

In December of 2021, 1,031 people were killed in alcohol-related crashes. Of all alcohol-related crashes in Nebraska, there were 76 fatalities and an additional 602 injuries in 2020. These fatalities are preventable, and drivers must remember that driving impaired by any substance — drugs or alcohol — is deadly, illegal, and selfish behavior.
