Sports and Event Center News

As the Ralston Sports and Event Center project goes forward, we are beginning to transition information about the project into one website. This website will feature scheduling, ticket purchases, calendar of events, promoter information, and more. The address of www.ralstonarena.com can be used to go right to arena information. This site will grow and when the doors open, be the primary, one-stop, easy to use access to arena information. Check it out and bookmark it now.

Construction on the Arena is Moving Forward as Scheduled

With the approval of the Governor's Committee approving the use of LB779 turnback tax, construction is moving forward as scheduled. The city is now preparing job descriptions for key personnel to operate the facility. The first position the city wants to fill is the General Manager. The city intends to finalize the job description and duties and do a nationwide search for a suitable candidate. Advertising for this position should be posted in the near future.

In addition, the city in partnership with ICON Architects and Boyd Jones Construction continue to finalize not only the intricate construction details, but also all of the interior items needed for the arena. Companies wishing to be considered in this process can direct inquiries to the respective entity. Any RFP's that are outside of the scope of their services will be posted on this page, so we encourage everyone to check back frequently as the construction progresses.

City Council Gives Approval to Advance Project to the Vote of the People

On February 22, the City Council unanimously voted to approve sending the arena project to the vote of the people. After a public meeting outlining the financials of the arena, the City Council is confident that the arena is fiscally feasible and that the matter should be acted on for further consideration.

With the approval of the city council, voters will now have the opportunity to vote for the $29 million bond initiative to pay for the arena. The special election will be a mailed ballot to registered voters in the city limits of Ralston. The vote will conclude on May 10. In accordance with voting regulations, the ballot language needs to be drafted and approved by the City Council. Approval of ballot language will be presented to the City Council on March 1. Updated information will be placed on this website and released to media outlets, to include the Ralston Recorder. People interested in the vote are encouraged to check back often for updates.

The design of the arena is in its final stages. The majority of the overall look of the facility is completed. In addition, the site plan will go before the Planning Commission in the near future. If approved, the site plan will also be placed on this website for review.

The future of Ralston holds great opportunities with the construction of a Ralston Sports and Event Center. This center will offer numerous opportunities from ice-related sports to hosting various tournaments and other venues. With the planning of the Sports and Entertainment Center in its infancy, the planning, design, construction, and opening of the center will involve many steps and processes. Through the entire process, people can come back to this page to keep up to date on documents, various key dates, and other useful information.

We are still very proud and grateful to all of the key people who have come together to make this a reality and create a building that is within the scope of the operating budget.

Any contractors wanting information on the project can contact Boyd Jones Construction, in Omaha, as the Construction Manager at Risk.

ICON Architectural Group out of North Dakota continues to finalize the designs and put the finishing touches on the overall project.
