Hinge Redevelopment Moves Forward

The Ralston Arena was the site of a recent public meeting attended by 50 people gathered to provide input on the ongoing “Hinge Redevelopment Project.”  Mayor Don Groesser hosted the January 22 meeting attended by representatives of city council, several city boards and commissions, the Ralston Area Chamber of Commerce and downtown business community, the Greater Omaha Chamber, the developer community, the Metropolitan Area Planning Agency, Congressman Don Bacon’s office, and members of the public.

In 2018 the city hired Omaha-based engineering firm HDR to lead the city’s effort to create a master plan for the 30-acre redevelopment area along Main Street, between 72nd Street and downtown Ralston.  Participants at the January 22 meeting helped the HDR team identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT analysis) posed by the project and brainstormed ideas for what kinds of businesses and residences might ultimately be located in the redevelopment area.

During the next phase of the project HDR will hold a three-day design workshop incorporating what was learned at the January 22 meeting and allowing the public to provide additional input. The workshop has not yet been scheduled, so please check the city website for dates and times.

Winter is here, and with it ice and snow.  Be a good neighbor and make sure that after a winter storm you clear your sidewalk of ice and snow.  In residential neighborhoods city ordinance requires ice and snow removal within 24 hours of the end of the weather event.  In business districts, sidewalks should be cleared within five hours from the end of the storm or by 8:30 am if the storm ended overnight.
